Led by the prestigious conductor Cristian Mandeal, the Romanian Youth Orchestra is more than just an orchestra. It assembles the brightest young musicians from Romania for a unique creative experience, in the common pursuit of musical excellence.

The youngest symphonic orchestra in Romania was founded in 2008 following an initiative from cellist Marin Cazacu with the help of “The Friends of Music – Serafim Antropov” foundation, who embraced the task of gathering together young musicians, aged between 18 and 28 years and selected nationwide as he wanted to create the proper creative environment to help the young artists in developing to the highest European artistic standards.

From the beginning, Cristian Mandeal assured the technical and artistic directing of the Romanian Youth Orchestra helping the young musicians not only to forge their talents, but also to inspire and delight the audience with every performance while doing so.

The musicians which, united by their passion for music embarked on such a brave and promising project, have proven throughout their concerts at the Romanian Athenaeum and at the extraordinary concert „Eurovision – Young Musicians“ that they can easily approach a large variety of programs, always being well received by the audience and the press.

The 2011 performance at the George Enescu International Festival, alongside star violinist David Garrett, lit up the stage, the concert being highly acclaimed.

In November 2011, the Romanian Youth Orchestra became member of the EFNYO (European Federation of National Youth Orchestras) and was named "Orchestra of the Year" by the Romanian Musical Critics Union.

In 2012, besides the concerts in Romania, the orchestra performed in January in Paris and Strasbourg, proving once again the high quality and the high artistic standards of this young orchestra.
