La Folia Barockorchester

La Folia - the name speaks for itself. For it is not just one of the most stimulating Baroque dance forms, La Folia is also synonymous for "noisy merriment, madness and frenzy - attributes that make up the ensemble since it's formation in 2007. The Baroque Orchestra La Folia consists of international award winning musicians, with an intelligent and artful instinct accompanying them on their quest for the unique sonority. Their goal is the living and descriptive repetition of instrumental Baroque music. Through the high level of chamber musicianship, each individual achieves astounding clarity and expressive power. They perform "Very lively and colourful, with a youth-full vitality and fiery spirit, musically courageous while unerringly accurate and hands on brilliance." (DIE RHEINPFALZ).

In general, the La Folia Baroque Orchestra remain devoted to the historical practice of performance: Transposing works to this present day, with an authentic vista for the music to remain alive. With the focus on Antonio Vivaldi, their repertoire extends to other masters of the Baroque era including; Bach, Händel or Telemann. The instrumentation varies between five and 25 pending on the play list.

La Folia selected works from the Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi exclusively for their debut album. Vivaldi's concerti con due istromenti and con molti istromenti are delivered with all the Baroque splendour and wit one expects from such an ensemble who feel very much at home. Complimenting these recordings are the soloists consisting of horns, clarinets and oboes.

The La Folia Baroque Orchestra regularly performs in their own concert series in Mannheim, with a cast of internationally renowned artists such as Maurice Steger, Jens Peter Maintz, Ramón Ortega Quero and Reinhold Friedrich.
